This is our 10th year of providing safe, fun pistol competition to the Tri State area. We also have become the most popular event held at the Fairfield Sportsmen's Association.
However with the good come some concerns. As most of you are aware, pistol ammunition has been difficult to obtain lately, and when it is found the price is higher than we're used to. Hopefully this situation will ease as the year progresses, but these predictions can't be made with any degree of certainty. We have already, and will continue to alert shooters regarding the availability of ammunition on the web or elsewhere. If a shooter cannot find centerfire ammo for the events, they can always consider shooting in the Rimfire (.22) Division as this ammunition seems to be more freely available.
The Friday Night Steel Committee has made some changes to the rules this year and I've listed the most notable below.
- If using the table, both double and single actions autopistols can be started in the cocked position with the safety disengaged and finger OFF of the trigger. Formerly single actions had to have the safety engaged and double action guns had to start hammer down. Revolvers still must be started with the hammer down and those drawing from a holster have to start with the safety engaged (single action) or the hammer down (double action).
- A yellow safety line (caution tape or chalk) will demarcate the firing points from the waiting or staging area. Only the current shooter, RO/timer, and scorer will be allowed forward of this line when the range is active.
- Only experienced shooters who have read and understand the range rules and commands will be allowed to act as RO/timers. These shooters will have to be authorized by a committee member before engaging in this activity. If there is any question please ask a committee member before proceeding.
- We are working on a brass recovery system for the firing points that will allow shooters to recover their spent brass quickly and easily. In the meantime recovery of a shooter's brass can be done when the range is inactive (no shooters on the line). The shooter is to collect only the brass he/she has fired or equivalent. No wholesale brass collection will be allowed unless authorized by a committee member. Unclaimed brass is the property of Friday Night Steel.
- We have decided not to hold the traditional Handicap Match in the future. We may hold a similar fun match but this is yet to be decided. The committee feels that this event deviates from the spirit of the competition we are trying to foster.
- Any injury or medical emergency (including heat exhaustion) that occurs at the range will be reported IMMEDIATELY to the Match Director or designee. We have a first aid kit and hydration therapy available.

Effective immediately, shooters may sign up from 4:30 pm until 7:00 pm. The match will start as soon as the range is ready and continue until everyone is finished.
